"JUST LIKE OLD TIME" by SIM won MIFF IDEATION AWARD 2012

Aiming at discovering outstanding young furniture designers to promote development of the furniture industry in Malaysia, OASIS has been taking apart THE IDEATION AWARD by MIFF every year to support young talent’s creativity.

In year 2012, OASIS supported one of shortlisted young talent - BA (Hons) Product Design Futures final-year student Sim Chia Yi with her design piece - Just Like Old Time, turning idea into prototype.

Just Like Old Time is elegantly weaved from local rattan and finished with a firm together with a detachable seat cushion, which is seating device that allows users to sit comfortably in various positions, particularly the“bersila” or cross-legged position common in the Malaysian culture, tastefully integrating traditional culture and contemporary lifestyle into the design.

Greatly, emerged as the winner of the MIFF Ideation Award 2012 after beating out nine other finalists selected from a total of 178 entries, Just Like Old Time won over the judges with her entry entitled Just Like Old Time.

With the interaction between the young talents and Malaysia furniture industry, it sparks with fruitful ideas from idea to prototype. During every stage of prototype development, communication is essential which get closer between creativity and business.
